Guns and Museums – A Professional Workshop for Museum Educators will include short lectures and participatory discussion on the ways that museums and artists can respond to gun violence. In this program, participants will tour the #UNLOAD: Guns in the Hands of Artists exhibition at the Fairfield University Art Museum’s Walsh Gallery with exhibition organizer, Jonathan Ferrara and museum curatorial and education staff, hear from museum and public history professionals who have studied the representation of guns in museums, and end with a facilitated discussion over lunch on how gun violence and museum work intersect. As arts can trigger conversations around important social issues, this workshop will better prepare museums who want to engage in dialogues about gun violence with their communities.
Ticket price includes morning coffee, lunch, and optional round-trip shuttle from Fairfield (Metro North) train station to museum.
