We have a problem with gun violence in this country. Too many men, women, and children are killed or grievously wounded by guns. The majority of Americans want this to end: gun owners and gun safety advocates; Democrats, Republicans and independents. But we are so divided that we mistrust each other and can’t agree on solutions. We need to break through barriers and unite in common purpose to stop these senseless deaths.

#UNLOAD believes that the arts can be the catalyst for open dialogue about guns, one that drives consensus and triggers change. We are working with a number of arts and community organizations to develop a wide variety of cultural events for 2018 in Connecticut that will encourage people to examine their relationship to guns. The #UNLOAD model can be exported to other states. If we do this, we have the chance to ignite a change reaction and save lives.
